The 2500 looks like it means business with its distinctive bold grille and firm, striking silhouette design. You can customize this truck in a number of different ways so that it perfectly represents you. Start by choosing from one of nine different trim levels: SLT, Tradesmen, Sport, Power Wagon, Big Horn, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Limited, and the brand new model for 2018, the Limited Tungsten. Based on what you like you can choose from five different body styles, ensuring that your new truck will command attention on the roads.
The 2018 Ram 2500 boasts a max diesel towing potential of 17,980 pounds (lbs) when equipped properly. To that end, if you want this truck to be a heavy hauler for you, it only makes sense to go with the optional Fifth-Wheel/Gooseneck Prep Package, which outfits the 2500 with a factory installed rear axle structural crossmember that allows for a fifth-wheel and gooseneck hitch. Also included in this prep package is a seven-pin connector in the bed of the truck for your wiring hookups. The truck has a tow/haul mode that adjusts the downshift schedule in order to better accommodate towing requirements. In fact, the 2500 does not just excel at towing - it is also the one to beat when it comes to hauling payloads around Bismarck ND, as well. The max payload amount with a gas engine is 3,990 lbs, which means you can load up the truck bed with heavy cargo and not have to think twice about it.
A truck is only as good as its engine, and in that department the new 2500 does not disappoint. The standard engine for this truck is a 5.7 liter (L) Hemi V8 that will get you 383 horsepower (hp) and 400 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque. A Heavy-Duty 6.4 L Hemi V8 puts out 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque, while the 6.7 L Cummins Turbo Diesel I6 spits out 370 hp and up to 800 lb-ft of torque. There are two available transmission options for the 2018 2500: a six-speed automatic and a six-speed manual.
In terms of safety and infotainment, this truck is outfitted with top of the line tech. Standard this year in all trim levels are anti-lock brakes, a rearview camera, stability control, and six airbags. Parking sensors are an optional feature, as is the cargo bed camera. Different trim levels have different infotainment features, starting with Tradesmen, which has an option to upgrade to a 5-inch touchscreen (along with Bluetooth connectivity and a USB charging port). The SLT features the 5-inch touchscreen, while the Big Horn and its Texas-only sibling, the Lone Star, have the 8.4 inch touchscreen. For all the bells and whistles, you should consider the Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Limited, and Limited Tungsten for upgrades like a premium audio system, leather upholstery, two-tone paint, chrome touches, and power-folding mirrors.
Whether for work or for play in Bismarck, Ram’s new 2500 fits the bill. Reliable, tough, but still able to provide you with comfort and convenience, this truck is one of the best in its class for good reason. If you are looking for something that can just as easily be a family vehicle as it can a work truck, it is time to check out the 2018 Ram 2500.
